Production

Seed production is a specialized function undertaken by the company through contracted seed growers. The growers and their facilities are vetted and assessed to ascertain their suitability to deliver to the required standards. All seed production aspects are subjected to a certification process in collaboration with the Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service (KEPHIS).

Maize
The maize varieties that produced for the various Agro Ecological Zones include:

The Highland Maize - H614, H625, H626, H627, H628, H629, H9401, H6210, H6212,H6213.

The Transitional zone and Medium Zone Varieties – H623, H513, H516, H517,

Lowland Maize Varieties – DH01, DH02, DH04, PH1, PH4, Katumani Composite B.

Wheat

The various wheat varieties include:

Early Maturing:Duma, K.Fahari, Ngamia, K.Nungu, K. Paka, K.S Mwamba

Mediaum Maturing: K.Tembo K.Mbuni, K.Kongoni K.Chiriku, K.Nyangumi K.Pasa

Late maturing: K.Popo K.Kwale

Sunflower Varieties

High oil content: H 8998, Kenya Fedha

Low oil content: Hungarian White (for animal feeds and bird feed market)

The company is currently testing new improved varieties of the high oil category and will soon be released to the market.

Pasture Grass
The success of the dairy sub sector depends on good quality grazing. The company produces a range of high quality pasture seeds suitable for various zones. These include:

Rhodes grass: Boma Rhodes, Elmba Rhodes

Setaria species: Nandi setaria

Panicum species: Colored guinea

Brachiaria ruziziensis: Congo Signal

Forage sorghums : Sudan grass, Columbus grass, Velvet Sorghum

Leguminous grasses: Desmodium Uniciatum, Lucern


HORTICULTURAL CROPS

Onions:Orient F1, Flare F1,BSS 230 F1.

These are our new hybrids that are high yielding and with superior performance and disease tolerance. Other varieties include Red Creole, and Bombay Red.

Cabbages :Pruktor F1,Gloria F1,Riana F1, Rotan F1, Field winner F1 Sonakashi F1

These are very profitable varieties grown for local and distant markets. They are have a long shelve life and have good resistance to black rot and Fusarium disease. Sonakashi F1 is one of the latest in the market. It is quick maturing and a good yielder.

Tomatoes: Nouvelle F1, Fortune Maker F1,Kentom F1,

These are high yielding hybrids developed for excellent tolerance to bacteria wilt, Tobacco Mosaic virus and pink rot. Other popular varieties include Zawadi, M82, Cal J, Rio Grande and Roma

Indigenous Vegetables
Spider plant (Saget), Black Night shade (Managu) and other traditional vegetables seeds have also been improved. These varieties give high yields and also have long harvesting periods.

Collards:

Sukuma wiki and Sukuma siku are hybrid varieties that grow vigorously and can be harvested continuously for up to 6 months. They give a yield of up to 18 tons per acre.

Carrots:

Carrot Nantes is a popular market variety, sweet and orange in colour with small core. It does not break easily hence can be transported for long distances. They yield up to 10 tons per acre.
